3 Signs it's Time to Call for a Garage Door Repair

Posted on: 24 April 2017

If you try to open your garage door and it opens part way, only to close again, it probably could use some maintenance. While you may be able to eventually get the door open by playing with the remote, a door that is difficult to open means there is something wrong with the track or the opening mechanism. You may also notice that your garage door opens all the way, but then doesn't stay all the way open.

When your garage door isn't opening smoothly and staying open, it's time to have your garage door checked to see what needs to be repaired. Ignoring the problem is going to make your garage door worse.

When a Bracket Gets Loose

The track your garage door rides on to open and close has to be symmetrical, or you will have problems. A loose bracket, or one that has fallen off, is enough to make the track on one side uneven with the other. Check the brackets that hold the track in place to see if any have come loose. You may be able to secure the bracket to the wall on your own if you can find the one that is broken.

If Your Garage Door Shuts On Its Own

When you open your garage door all the way, it is held open by the tension spring. When this spring becomes loose, your garage door may start to shut on its own. If the tension spring snaps completely, your garage door can slam close unexpectedly. This can pose a hazard to you and your car if you are driving into the garage at the moment it decides to snap completely.

When Your Garage Door Won't Engage

Sometimes a garage door that won't engage is a simple fix. It's possible that the electric circuit to your garage has been tripped. Other times it is a problem with the motor that opens up the garage door. When you press the remote for your garage door and nothing happens, you'll first want to see that the remote batteries aren't dead. The receiver on the motor itself can sometimes become unattached, which will stop the door from opening.

When you have problems with your garage or residential doors and you aren't sure what's wrong, it's time to call for help. Don't wait until you are stuck outside of your home without a way to get into your garage.

Finding The Perfect Garage Door

After I moved into our new home, I realized that there were a few issues with the exterior of the house. It seemed like the home was older, even though it was built a few years ago. One of the things that stuck out to me was the condition of the garage door, so I started thinking about ways to rectify the problem. I was able to find a company that built custom garage doors, and they were amazing to work with. Within a few days, my new garage door was built and installed, and I was really pleased with the outcome. Check out this blog for more information on garage doors.
