2 Things To Check When Your Garage Door Doesn't Open
Posted on: 13 June 2018
When your garage door stops working well, there are several things that you can do to see if you can get it fixed on your own or if you need to have a professional come in and take care of it for you. So, what are some of those things?
Check the Wheels
Your garage door should have wheels on it that run on a track. If those wheels get off the track a little bit, then the door won't go up or will go up unevenly. You can check each of the wheels and make sure that they are in the track the way that they should be. You should also make sure that the wheels aren't broken and that there isn't anything preventing the wheels from moving or making it so that they won't spin easily. You can spray some lubricant on them if you would like, but make sure that you use only a little bit because if you put too much on, it can attract dust and dirt, which could cause gunk to build up around the wheels. You could also try a little powdered graphite as a lubricant, but again, only use a little bit.
Make Sure it's Got Power
If you have an automatic garage door opener, you should also make sure that you have checked the power source to make sure that the motor has power. There are a few places to check. If the motor is plugged into an outlet, make sure that it's still plugged in. Make sure that it's turned on. You should also check the fuse or circuit breaker for that area to make sure that they are still good. If it still isn't working after you have checked to make sure that the unit has power, then you should probably call in a professional. You may need to have another unit installed, or it could be a simple fix, but you shouldn't take anything apart to try to fix it yourself. If there is a warranty on your garage door opener, you opening it up and trying to fix it can invalidate that warranty.
If your garage door doesn't open when you want it to, it can be very frustrating. There are things that you can do on your own to fix it, but you can always call up a professional garage door repair company like J & B Door for help.
